The Companies Registration Office (CRO) is the central repository of public statutory company law related information on Irish companies. The CRO registers companies and makes information available to the public.

Commencing with Quarter 1 2026, the CRO will be providing statistics on a quarterly basis in relation to the lifecycle of a company: Incorporations, Restructuring, Liquidations and Strike Offs.

There are over 340,000 companies on the Register, and 579,316 documents were filed with the CRO in 2025. Of these, over 95% (554,952) were filed electronically.

Commenting on the publication, Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment said:

• “I welcome the initiative by the Companies Registration Office (CRO) to publish this data on a quarterly basis. The data gathered by the CRO is an important indicator of business in Ireland, tracking as it does the number of new companies being incorporated, companies availing of the various restructuring processes and companies entering liquidation. The availability of this data on an ongoing basis will allow a more up to date assessment of such activity in the Irish economy and I look forward to studying the CRO’s quarterly releases with interest.”

The VIF Form has been amended and updated, due to the CRO having serious concerns surrounding the integrity of online witnessing on the VIF Forms.

From midnight April 30 2026, the CRO will no longer accept VIF Forms witnessed online, the CRO will only accept forms that have been witnessed and signed with the witness and declarant physically in the same room for the verification of identity.

The updated VIF Form is available on CORE.

Please Note: Previous versions of the VIF Form received by the CRO after midnight April 30 2026 will be rejected.

Pursuant to section 888A of the Companies Act 2014, on and after the commencement of Section 35 of the Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Act 2021 and notwithstanding Section 262 (9) of the Social Welfare Consolidation Act 2005, a director shall include his or her personal public service number (or, in any case where the director does not have a personal public service number (“PPSN”), such other information concerning the identity of the director as stands determined by the Registrar of Companies for the purposes of this section) in—

• • (a) an application made under this Act by him or her to incorporate a company,

• • (b) an annual return made under this Act by a company of which he or she is a director, and

• (c) a notice of change of directors or secretaries made under this Act by a company of which he or she is a director

The Registrar of Companies has determined that the within VIF Form is the form that must be used by any director that does not have a PPSN when carrying out any of the actions referred to in section 888A(1)(a) – (c) inclusive.

Separately, the Registrar of Beneficial Ownership of Companies and Industrial and Provident Societies has determined in accordance with Regulation 21(2)(b) of the European Union (Anti-Money Laundering: Beneficial Ownership of Corporate Entities) Regulations 2019 (“the Regulations”) that the within VIF Form is the form that must be used by any beneficial owner who does not have a PPSN when filing beneficial ownership information

The Companies Registration Office (the CRO) has today launched its Document Library for relevant companies to publicly disclose their corporate tax information, as required under the European Union (Disclosure of income tax information by certain undertakings and branches) Regulations of 2023
(S.I. No. 322/2023).

The relevant companies are those with reported revenue exceeding €750 million in each of the preceding two consecutive financial years. These companies can now publish the reports on the CRO’s Document Library.

The Document Library is accessible at Document library – CRO, where you can search for submissions by Company Name, the Year of Publication, and the relevant Jurisdiction.
