The commencement of Section 22 of the Companies (Corporate Governance, Enforcement and Regulatory Provisions) Act 2024 on 16 July 2025 provides for a change to the current audit exemption regime.
Late annual returns filed up to midnight on 15 July 2025 will require an audit for the following two annual returns.
Section 363(2)(b) confirms that if a company files late after the commencement date, any late filing before the commencement date will be disregarded when deciding if audited financial statements are required.

As part of the CRO’s ongoing commitment to transparency and making information accessible to everyone, a new portal offers easy access to key company data, including Company Records and Financial Statements.
Fully compliant with EU Open Data Regulations, the portal provides access to data in bulk and via API, in open, machine-readable formats under the Creative Commons BY 4.0 licence. It also follows the DCAT-AP-HVD metadata standard, making it easier to discover, integrate and reuse the information.
To enhance accessibility across Europe, information is also published on data.europa.eu via Ireland’s national open data platform, data.gov.ie.
Users can explore the information through interactive public dashboards that present essential company information in a clear, intuitive way.
This launch marks the first step in an ongoing journey for the CRO with a commitment to continually expanding and improving the portal to ensure it remains a valuable tool for all.
